US vacation trip, April 22 — May 2, 2005

Sunday, April 24: "This will kill that."

New York City at night is a splendid sight — especially if there is fog! But all is not well here. The advertising poster on the upper left made me think of a line from Victor Hugo: "This will kill that." Why? The poster is from MoMA — the Museum of Modern Art. "Modern art" means pure, unadulterated nihilism and is, ultimately, an explicit attack on on all the glories of Western civilization — including The City of Cities. So the slogan for this exhibit, "The Art of Learning" — isn't as innocuous as it sounds. And this cultural horror is even sponsored by one of the supposed bastions of American capitalism: the JP Morgan & Chase banks! A scary sight — in all its visual splendor.
