Wednesday, April 27: Augustus Saint-Gaudens's house, Cornish
The weirdly named Augustus Saint-Gaudens was one of America's most famous and successful sculptors in the last decades of the 19th century. I much prefer Daniel Chester-French, who was his younger semi-contemporary, but since Saint-Gaudens's property is located in Cornish and now is a museum, I stopped by. The museum hadn't opened for the season yet, so I only got to see this place from the outside — but it's a grand property indeed.
